As a child he attended the music school of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, focusing on jazz piano. He spent his undergraduate years at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts studying musical theatre under Broadway legends like Michael Potts and Jeanne Lehman. After graduating NYU, he has found his way into several lasting professional partnerships, notably as music associate of legendary composer John Kander (CABARET, CHICAGO). His work as a composer includes his one-man shows PETER & THE PIANO, PRINCE OF DENMARK, the full-length musicals WAR! and PROHIBITED LOVE, and DONE DANCING, a suite for piano and dance. Dieman most recently has begun scoring for film, including CROW GOD (Selection, Nighthawk film festival), DOLLAR GENERALS and ONLY WORN ONCE, starring Martha Kelly. Dieman started at NMTP as “Artist in Residence” back when it was known as Live Source Theatre Group, becoming Artistic Director in 2020 and shifting the group towards developing new works of music and theatre. Ultimately a story about growing up, Kid of New York shows us life in the fast lane through a child’s eyes, and asks us just for a moment to slow down and notice the art all around us.
