The Mouse.

by Noah Magnus

In this chamber opera, Noah Magnus employs both humor and tragedy to show how 21st century urban living collides with the inevitable conclusion: animals were here first.

Lost (and found)

in New York

by Elle Gurevich

As part of our new Future Voices series, 14 year old composer Elle Gurevich will be commissioned to write their first musical: a tale of a young boy, child to two overwhelmed artist parents, who becomes lost in the city they yearn to explore. Ultimately a story about growing up, Lost (and found) in New York shows us life in the fast lane through a child’s eyes, and asks us just for a moment to slow down and notice the art all around us.

New York Is Dead

by Chris Dieman

Full Creative Team To Be Announced Soon

Commissioned by New York State Council for the Arts

Inspired by an absurd New York Post headline during the Coronavirus Pandemic, New York Is Dead explores what happens to the lives of New Yorkers when their home is turned upside down and inside out. This World Premiere song cycle features an eclectic score that emphasizes community against the backdrop of New York’s “beautiful mosaic.” The piece seeks to be both a mirror of and commentary on our melting pot of disparate rhythms now interrupted.

WAR!

music by Chris Dieman
lyrics by Chris Dieman & Gianfranco Settecasi
book by Gianfranco Settecasi

Drawing inspiration and motifs from great classics such as Mother Courage and Her Children and Dr. Strangelove…, this piece unpacks and eviscerates nationalistic bravado as it looks deeper into the lives affected by a world in constant political turmoil as it immerses its audience in “the war room.”

This exciting new musical was NMTP’s first musical theatre commission and has been in development for the last two seasons. NMTP is currently in talks with several producing partners for the next stage of this thrilling new work.
